La mappa dei social network nel mondo (dicembre 2009)

L’accoglienza ricevuta dalla prima “mappa dei social network nel mondo” (oltre 200 citazioni da blog, soprattutto stranieri, e altrettanti da Facebook e da Twitter, oltre 300 condivisioni su delicious) mi ha spinto a proporne una versione aggiornata.

I più importanti cambiamenti da giugno:

In 100 delle 127 nazioni analizzate Facebook è leader di mercato, in termini di visitatori e spesso anche di utenti registrati. Con oltre 350 milioni di utenti registrati, continua a guadagnare terreno nei confronti dei propri competitor in tutto il mondo. In particolare infligge alcuni duri colpi a:

- Orkut in India. Questo dato va trattato con attenzione perchè basato solo su Alexa, visto che Google non rende pubblico il traffico dei suoi siti. Sicuramente Orkut sta perdendo terreno in India, dove sarebbe interessante capire se si profila una divisione di classe tra gli utenti dei due player (ne avevo parlato con danah boyd che sta approfondendo questa tesi).
Orkut rimane ancora il social network di riferimento in Brasile, Paraguay, Estonia.

- Hi5 in Camerun, Costa Rica, Repubblica Domenicana, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Messico, Nicaragua. Hi5 restiste ancora in Peru, Portogallo, Romania, Tailandia e Mongolia

- Odnoklassniki: ma sono in Azerbaijan. Sembra che Facebook non riesca a trovare una strategia per convincere i russi a lasciare Odnoklassniki e V Kontakte.

- Maktoob in Libia, Oman, Arabia Saudita e Yemen

- Cyworld in Corea del Sud

- Lidé in Repubblica Ceca

- Skyrock in Guadalupe e Martinica

Nella mappa non appare l’Iran perchè i dati a disposizione non sono completi a causa della situazione censoria.

Bellissimo lavoro. Un solo appunto: hai usato pochi colori troppo simili tra loro e spesso è difficile capire l’associazione SN-Paese. Fossi in te cambierei un po’ i colori per renderla più contrastata (valuta anche se è il caso di usare dei pattern per differenziare ulteriormente)

Hello from Germany,

i am sorry but the graphics who is shown at the Top is not correct. In Germany the social Network Facebook is on not the most popular social community. StudiVZ has nearly 15 million Users in Germany and Facebook about 6 Million. I think your research is not very good.

PedroF, os dados da Marktest são os últimos em que eu confiaria. Sobretudo nesta altura, em que o painel em que assentam remonta a 2008. É um painel doméstico — e é tudo o que sabemos dele, e é muito pouco para aferir da sua representatividade ou qualidade. Enfim. É uma pecha portuguesa, isto dos números. Depois queixam-se de projectos ora sobre-dimensionados, ora sub-dimensionados. Dito isto: dei a notícia por a achar interessante, em especial a utilização do ManyEyes. Na realidade, o acesso web é cada vez menos barómetro, em especial quando se trata de medir acessos às redes sociais. A quantidade de interacções através das API (aplicações, telemóveis) é muito maior que pela web. Quanto às redes, o Hi5 está morto há muito tempo e o Orkut, nem o facelift de há semanas o salva.

Very interesting and a good research work… despite it is not 100% accurate, at least regading Spain.
In Spain, the most popular -in terms of number of users , with over 6,5 Million, and much more in term of minutes Per day, uploaded User generated contents, and conversations, – is Tuenti (www.tuenti.com )
Pretty much focussed on the 14-23 years old segment, it is over growing such boundaries steadily.
Facebook, being more general, is almost at the same level, but as of today, with the lates available data , Tuenti leads the pack.
I miss in your map soe information about profesional networks such as Linkedin or Xing. Althoug more vertical and specialised are a ver powerful trend.
